Sun and Shadows

Grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generation. ~Lois Wyse
Today, the grands explored shadows in the backyard. We hung a sheet on the backside of the playground and the grands used puppets to tell stories of their making.

Next, the grands used their hands and fingers as the characters in their add-on story.

It was about an eagle..
a swooping eagle...
and the demise of a mouse!
Finally, they took turns presenting puppet shows.

After reading Moonbears Shadow by Frank Asch, we had fun playing shadow tag as we tried to step on each other's shadows and at the same time protect our own shadows.  It's tricky!

We talked about how when the sun is shining, we see our shadows and our shadows can look long or short depending on where the sun is in the sky.

We made sundials from flower pots and used sticks to cast the shadows.  Each hour that went by, the grands drew lines on their sundials.  In this way, they were able to observe and measure the turning of the earth.

We set up our backyard as a frisbee golf course and had fun flinging the frisbees around.   It was grand fun!

PJ is a super-flyer!

Mia is twirling hers!

Ty did a great job learning to fly his frisbee today!

Silly Grands!
PJ kept score on a paper towel and was the winner of the tournament - Hmmmm!

Psalm 78:4 - We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD, about his power and His mighty wonders.

Today Pops helped the grands dramatize the story of John the Baptist.  PJ is a roving reporter for a local TV station and he interviews eyewitnesses!

'Til next time, it's grand to be a Grand!!
