Things That Fly

Friday, we began camp by revisiting the fun we previously had with balloons and bubbles.

and then back to start.
In the first balloon game, the grands had to use their hands to smack balloons up in the air,  across the yard...

deposit them into the wheelbarrow...

The next ballon game was played by sitting on the ballons and popping them - relay style.

Just look at Ty's face, he barely weighs enough to pop his balloon - poor little guy!!!

We tested the atmostphere with bubbles to see what kind of bubble day it was.
We found out that it was a very good bubble day - the more humid, the higher the bubbles float.
Ty used a kitchen strainer.
Ty and Mia used...
fly swatters....
butterfly nets...
 and...
homemade pencil and wire wands.

I think the grands had the most fun...
just...
using...
 their...
 hands!!!

This was our book today!
Clorinda, who is a cow, is inspired by a bird and becomes determined to find a way to fly.  After several unsuccessful attempts at building and flying a rocket, an airplane, and a helicopter, Clorinda, with the help of her friends, is finally successful at taking off in her hot air balloon.   The grands made their snack with graham crackers, Otterbein's cookies, Twizzlers, and sprinkles.  They looked like...

this....(hot air balloon)
and this... (airplane)
and this...parachute guy!

Next, we used this book to make paper airplanes. If you are not proficient at Origami, you might want to come up with your own version of folding airplanes.

That is what Pj did.
Mia's Spider Plane
 It was...
 great...
fun!!!
Ta-da!!!
Pops led the grands in the Bible story about Moses, who led
the Israelites out of Egypt, and how God gave manna
in the wilderness.  Ty had to make grumbling tummy sounds!

'til next time, it's grand to be a Grand!

Fun with Chromatography

We opened camp today by playing Playdough Pictionary!

PJ's Camera
The grands worked in teams to create the items that were listed on their cards, using the playdough. The rest of the players guessed what was being made.

We made a dog...

a fish...

scissors...

and Mom-Mom made a flower.

a bike...

The grands had fun with water balloons.

We used these materials to learn about chromatography.

The grands squirted two different colors of food coloring in the same spot on a paper towel and then used a water bottle to spray the drops.

This process caused the colors or pigments to separate.

The results were amazing!

We read this book today.

 The grands used Jingle Shells...
and beads
to create
necklaces.

For an afternoon treat these ingredients were used to make ice cream

in bags.
Some toppings were added .
Yummy!

You can find this recipe on www.familyfun.com

The grands made Pops his "favorite vegetable"

ice cream...!!
